In 1997 Andrew Gunn, who’d made his money from a medical suture company, bought a run-down apple farm in the Elgin region. Now it’s one of South Africa’s leading producers of Sauvignon Blanc, although 15 hectares of apple trees still remain alongside the vineyards. It’s at an altitude of 420 metres, with a view of the sea, which is just 3 km away.

This Sauvignon Blanc shows fragrance of pure white grapefruit, intense tropical fruit, ripe gooseberry and fleshy kiwi fruit over-lay Iona’s distinctive herbal and floral undertone. The palate is keenly balanced showing cut green apples and lime marmalade followed by great minerality and length.
An important component is the addition of a little Semillon which enhances the mid- palate weight and complexity of the wine.

Great with fresh asparagus, chicken and seafood dishes but is also enjoyable by itself.
